Caroline Bond has the ability as an author to quickly draw her readers into the lives of the characters she creates in the books she writes and The Legacy is no exception. Jonathan Coulter has motor neurone disease and, knowing his time is limited, he visits a solicitor to update his will. There are many people to consider; his three adult children, his ex-wife and his partner of a number of years who has cared for him throughout his illness. To everyone's amazement he makes his three children executors of his estate and leaves them to decide how his assets should be distributed adding that everything must be settled before they can hold his funeral. This is a story that many readers will relate to either from their own experiences or through the stories that others have told them following a death in the family. Usually any confusion about a deceased person's wishes arising from them dying intestate. Jonathan has made a will but only added to the confusion. As is common in many families the three siblings rarely agree on anything so how will they cope and will they choose to make provision for Jonathan's ex-wife, and their mother, and his partner?
