Another great book by Caroline Bond, where we meet siblings Olivia, Chloe and Noah who have recently lost their father (Jonathan) to Motor Neurone Disease, they are sitting in a solicitors office whilst the will is read out, also present is their father's partner Megan, but she is not named as executor of the will and is not given an envelope, as the others are. Jonathan has made certain stipulations with regards to the will which leaves them all speechless and stunned. He had left his house to the executors apart from a cash sum of £5000 to go to Lisa Joanne Browne, who was his carer. The executors have to decide together on the fairest way to divide up his estate and if they can't decide the money will go to The Motor Neurone Disease charity. Also a note on a statement of wishes says that the funeral must not go ahead until everything is settled and he is sorry for the mistakes he made as a father and husband. Next comes a gruelling period of time, with Chloe living in the family home with Megan and all of the siblings are unable to make decisions with regard to the will. Very soon they are all together to make a decision, at the house in Scarborough, the house which was once the family home, but it's now proving to be such a problem.
Three siblings, an ex wife, a carer and a much younger new partner, what could possibly go wrong? Especially when emotions come to a head between them, as they remember their childhood memories and tensions between them grow bigger and bigger. You find out that everyone has secrets, and you find your feelings for each character changes as you read on, as you wonder what the outcome will be. You find yourself liking one member of the family then changing your mind as more and more secrets are uncovered, I did like that it was set around Scarborough, an area that I have visited on holiday many times, so I could picture it easily in my mind as I read along. As the story comes to an end, I found that I had warmed to this family a lot, complete with all its foibles and will miss their stories and lives immensely.
