The Legacy by Caroline Bond is not a book I would usually pick as I like more escapism and often read fantasy and murder mysteries. This is a heady read of a character based drama story and I found myself hooked in to the emotional journey of her characters. The focus is on a family and their responses and dynamics after a death. What I found interesting was the psychology and complexities in the relationships and reactions. Don't expect plot twists of any developing climax as such; this is a relationship book; the family dynamics are at the heart of the central narrative and drive throughout.
With themes of family, loss, grief, love, greed and the impact of a cruel and cutting disease it's an emotional journey for the lead characters. The writing is solid and the pace steady; you can easily slip into the world and lives within the novel. I would recommend this book and is does leave you reflecting at the end.
