I really liked getting to know this dysfunctional family as they were all forced to try and live and work together to make plans for their's father's estate. Although not a lot happens over the course of the book there are sufficient twists and revelations that sustain interest.

It was hard to know who to feel sorry for which was good from a writing perspective, each character fairly portrayed with their own flaws and challenges. The setting was really vivid - I loved the imagery of the sea scapes and you could also really feel like you knew the house and get a sense of how the characters all felt returning to it.

The best thing was probably that the author resisted the temptation to have a complete resolution at the end - the death of someone significant will always have a long term impact and the story doesn't try to gloss over this. Instead, each character goes off to start their own new story without their father.
