I loved this book, short chapters meant I kept thinking 'just one more'. It's not too demanding, but it is a clever and compelling tale of a family and the lives of the people within it. The writing is good, summoning a sense of a seaside town as a backdrop. The characters are both flawed and likeable in the most part, and I enjoyed the sense that I didn't feel that I was rooting for anyone in particular; rather enjoying letting the story unfold.
I'm not sure the cover really represents the book - the padlocks (explained towards the end of the book) suggest more of a thriller to me, and it's not. It's a snapshot of people's lives, taking place over only a few weeks but with some background unfolding. It's hard to say more without giving away an spoilers - instead I'd encourage you to pick it up if you want to get lost in other people's tales for a bit!
