Another Caroline Bond book woven around an event (in this case the death and strange will conditions) which has a profound effect on the people involved (the current wife, his grown up children and ex).

This is told from different perspectives in short chapters but each voice is clearly distinguished so it's easy to keep track.

At his heart, this is an exploration of grief and it's effect on each character, rather than a plot-driven story. And that's where it's strength lies - people who are largely believable reacting and looking back on their relationships with each other and their father.

Nothing much in terms of 'action' happens, but as a character study this is a great book. And if you've read 'One Split Second', Bonds previous novel you'll know what to expect - an emotional wringer that is easily relatable.

Well written and thoughtful.
