The Liar’s Girl immediately captured my attention and continued to keep me gripped as the story unfolded. It was very well written, alternating between the past and the present, and painted both the setting and the characters very vividly.

All of the characters that appeared quite often seemed very well rounded and believable. I thought that Alison’s thoughts and actions, both in the past and present, were understandable and I definitely felt for her considering the horrible position that she found herself in. Liz, too, felt very real to me and I felt that the author managed to capture the almost destructive friendship that teenage girls can have perfectly. The scenes written in the killer’s point of view were wonderfully chilling, giving a rather unnerving and different viewpoint at various points in the novel. They were insightful enough to give the reader a good look into their motivations and actions but still managed to keep the necessary facts hidden.

The story was very good and did a superb job of keeping me guessing. There were definitely times when I was left wondering whether or not Will, and several other individuals, were as guilty or innocent as they seemed. Various theories played on my mind whilst reading this book. I thought the outcome was believable and the twist at the end was certainly not one that I expected.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys thrillers and will definitely be checking out the author’s debut novel myself sometime.
