This thriller is something special; a difficult novel to fault.

The Liar's Girl follows Alison Smith, varying between her present perspective and perspective from ten years before, who was Will Hurley's girlfriend. Will who was charged as the Canal Killer, but ten years later when a string of copycat murders claims to be innocent, and is convinced Ali is the only person who could possibly listen to him. There are also omniscient third person narrations throughout that provide haunting insights into the mind of the killer, without revealing their identity.

As far as thrillers go, this book had a seriously impressive handle on the various layers of the plot that I seriously had no chance of guessing and believe me, I tried. Every chapter ended with a cliff hanger, in the form of brown envelopes to unanticipated footsteps, which simply meant the book wasn't put down. The twists and turns really don't cease until the final page.

The characters are believable and as the story grows, you really begin to understand what drives and motivates them, seeing each of them as human, but still questioning who you can trust, especially with the character of Will.

There is even a very subtle blend of romance to balance the weight of gruesome murders and psychopaths.
