This is the second of Rosie Goodwin's proposed series of 7 books about the Days of the Week but can be read as a standalone. (I haven't read the first book Mothering Sunday yet.) The Little Angel is a day old baby who was left outside a children's home in Nuneaton just before Christmas in 1896 and named Kitty. She moves to London when she is 18 to live with her mother, a fading music hall star.
This book deals with everything - cruelty, innocence, the lives of both the rich and the poor, exploitation of the innocent, unconditional love, heroism and cowardice..
The story is straightforward and this book is not a great feat of literature. Nevertheless it is a heart warming story which will delight many thousands of women who want nothing deeper from a book and the cover will attract those looking for a suitable Christmas present for their granny.
