"The Little Gardener's Handbook" by Michael Holland is a lovely, colourful, introduction to gardening for children. The quirky illustrations by Maria Dek deserve a mention too; the whole book is beautiful and will definitely appeal to its target audience.

Leading on from an introductory welcome to the wonderful world of gardening, the book is divided into four main chapters: All About Plants, Getting Started, Let's Grow Fruit and Veg and Let's Grow Plants, with handy glossary to finish off. Each chapter is sub-divided into sections each of two pages, with easy to follow text and lovely illustrations, making it long enough to be educational but short enough to keep the child's attention. This book covers everything from pollination, how to make a compost heap and how to grow a variety of flowers and vegetables.

With its clear and concise instructions, and helpful advice, this book is a really good introduction to gardening and my daughter already loves it!
