The story follows young girl Biddy Weir, abandoned by her mother and raised by an emotionally distant father. Biddy wears ill-fitting unwashed clothes and doesn't fit in with the popular kids, so she happily lives in her own little world. Then she meets Alison Fleming and Biddy's quiet life is turned upside down.

I must mention that though this is a story about bullying, abuse and ultimately survival, it is a beautiful and heart-warming read. Do not be put off by the bleak themes, it is an outstanding book. I was surprised to learn that this is in fact a debut novel, it is that well-written and that beautiful a story. The first part follows Biddy's past and her life during her school years. The second part follows Biddy as an adult.

Biddy herself is a very endearing character. I really warmed to her and my heart broke for her when she was being bullied. Biddy is a character that I shall never forget. The author is an incredible writer who puts it all out there and doesn't hold back, which made Biddy's entire experience feel so real. All the characters around Biddy were all so well written and I adored everyone who tried to help Biddy. The author was also painfully honest when writing the bullies so Biddy's story will resonate with a lot of people.

I am so pleased that I picked this book up, I actually couldn't put it down. This book has understandably been compared to Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman. If you are a fan of Eleanor Oliphant then you will adore Biddy Weir. I personally think this story is just that little bit better. I not only recommend this book, I urge everyone to read it. In a world where we ought to be nicer to others, please pick up this book, please share this book, please rave about this book, to show others just why we should always be kind.
