On first glance I would not usually be drawn to this book, the cover looks whimsical and the title almost romantic however as I looked deeper and began to read the summary I was intrigued, drawn into a story, and a cover, much darker than first thought. Perhaps this initially calm cover before the destruction is spotted is the perfect indication of the story and the message, what does it really mean to be a woman? Are there real women living in this somewhat dystopian existence?

As I started to read, even the first chapter, I was instantly drawn in by the lead character, her thoughts and emotions come through quickly despite the reader not knowing what is about to happen. The tension in this first few pages, the darkness about a time not so long ago when misogyny and racism were an accepted part of everyday life, and the mysterious element of the novel's first pages are quickly engaging. I can’t wait to read further!
