I didn't know what to expect with the cover and the book title but I'm glad I read this extract right the way through. It's interesting to see the the impact of the disappearance unfold from the different perspectives. I'm interested to see more of the novel from Ruby's and the Detective's perspectives. I'm interested enough to want to find out what happened to Joyce. The cover threw me off as it isn't what I would expect, but it's in keeping with the time period in which this novel is set. I would not have picked this up off a shelf with that cover. Thankfully I read the extract and I'm interested enough from the first few pages to want to read on.
