This book seems to be set in America in a twee suburban place, inhabited by rich white families. They have 'help' who in this book are young black women. The families don't seem to treat the help very well and look down on them.
Something has happened at one of the houses, and the young children have been left on their own. One of the help sees a child on their own so goes to investigate. She finds a lot of blood in the kitchen and is subsequently arrested when the police turn up.
This book made me feel uncomfortable in how the help were treated. I hope attitudes shift as the book goes on.
