From the first page the book plants the perfect image of 1950s American suburbia, from the vivid descriptions of the colours and atmosphere, to the imagery of the domestic setting and the ways in which women and people of colour were silenced and kept down at this time. I felt like I was there!! I love the multiple POV which is perfect for the fast pace of the plot. It’s like we get a general scene setting and sense of foreboding tension from Joyce, before being thrown straight into the action with Ruby discovering the scene, and then reeled back into a more clinical and detached view from Mick. I am literally DYING to find out what happens and how this story progresses!! The author has me completely hooked just from the first few chapters!! The cover looks perfect and screams 50s!
