I was struck by how well this was written, with distinct and memorable characters and a fabulous sense of period and style. I could picture it all perfectly in my mind. I want to keep reading to find out what really happened to the missing woman, but also in the hope that the new detective will be fair and help poor Ruby out. The book cover was attractive and was in keeping with the style of the story.
