Gripping authentic voices and an enticing hook.
The voices of the characters are unique and very real, authentic for the time period. I can see the scenery very clearly through the characters and have a good grasp of the characters already even with just this first glance.
The hook in the first chapter hooked me right in and I definitely want to keep reading and learning more about the character and who 'dunnit'. I want to read more because having a sense of the time period, I am interested to know who killed Joyce and whether this book will address racial issues in that era for her murder and the voice of Mick sounds interesting and I would love to know more about his back story too.
I do wish that the cover was more sinister to match the mood of the first few chapters but otherwise, very much looking forward to reading more.
