I raced through these opening chapters!
This sounds a little like a 50s/60s version of Desperate Housewives, which I'm here for! I really like Ruby's character so far... I rooting for her to evade the investigation.
I really like the writing style. There is the right amount of description verses dialogue, and the chapters are a good length.
I'm not mad on the cover... I think it's the red typography, it doesn't blend in with the image.
