Straight away the author had me warming to Ruby - the help. It seemed as if she would know a lot about the women she works for. The supposed.victim is introduced in a calm way and it makes you wonder when anything is going to happen. Then there is blood and lots if it. I'm left with lots of questions and a mixture of emotions. Why has Ruby been arrested? Why did someone think it is acceptable to slap her? What did Barbara see and why was Lily crying?
