Premise interesting, execution less so.

The premise of the book reminds one of a couple of recent movies on housewives and murder in the 70s - not a bad premise for a mystery novel - but the style of writing is stilted and the dialogue rather dull. I would still be keen to read to the rest of the novel based on my first impressions as I suspect it may warm up into a more compelling read but the first few chapters are not too exciting and have yet to grab me completely. The cover is good, but I think a traditional ladies' magazine cover from the 1970s superimposed would have been better - again, I underestand why the image of the sunny kitchen was chosen but it's a little dull.
