The Long Long Afternoon by Inga Vesper was a lovely refreshing change from the usual modern day mystery drama thrillers I read, and I enjoyed it.

The cover of the book is so reminiscent of simple long sunny California afternoons in the 1950's and the book was the same and took the reader back to a time when life was simple....... until one afternoon when Joyce Haney, wife and mother literally vanishes into thin air.

The old fashioned writing with lots of scene setting descriptions was perfect for the writing, although for me it waffled on a bit in places. However, the story kept a good steady pace and it was a good mystery drama thrillers, with enough secrets and lies, twists and turns and surprises to keep me happy.

Because of the era it is set in, there was some uncomfortable use of racist language which may be offensive to some, but put in context it was essential for the book.
