I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the Long Long Afternoon and was thrilled to receive my copy. It is remarkable for a debut novel and I eagerly await further books from Inga Vesper. I particularly enjoyed reading the multiple narrators as I love getting more than one perspective on a storyline. The scene was so well described and I felt I was immersed in the sticky Californian heat! As the story is set in the 1950s, racism sadly plays a large part in the storytelling (arguably it might still do in a modern setting) and parts are difficult to read without wincing! The story begins with a bang and is told at a leisurely but not particularly slow pace and it gives time to get to learn about the inner working of neighbourhood and the secrets which hide within. Definitely a story you won’t want to set down once you’ve begun reading! Thoroughly enjoyable
