This was a book about sexism and racism in the late 1950's. Women didn't like their places and they couldn't really do much about it. Ruby wanted to become a teacher and to do that she needed to go college and that means she needed money. But she was black and it was really hard for people like her to even get a job then and if they did, they'd get paid a pittance. When her her friend/boss is reported missing with her blood on the kitchen floor, she teams up detective Blanke to get to the bottom of this. This book really shows the struggles of two different sides, being a women and being black and it really shows discrimination as it was. I loved the writing style it was shown from the view of three different characters taking turn to narrate in first person. I loved the book so much and was hooked into it, I ended up finishing it in two days. 10/10 for me!
