This book really stood out to me from the start, I am in love with this cover. I was so pleased to receive this book, from Readers First.
When I first started it I got the feeling it was going to be a bit like The Help, with the way Black people were treated in the 50's. It not only covers racism in this book also sexism and class.
This is fantastic debut novel and I will be looking out for more by this author.
Set in Sunnylakes, California in 1959, Joyce Haney wife and mother of 2 disappears from her home. The 2 daughters are left alone and there is a bloodstain in the kitchen. Ruby Wright "the help" is the first on the scene. she seems to know most of the secrets behind the curtains in this street in Sunnylakes.
It had me guessing and changing my mind on what had happened, however a quarter of the way through I did have it sussed.
I would definitely recommend this book :)
