Okay, so I loved LOVED LOVED this book. It really delved into the mystery behind what exactly went on behind the closed doors, and how struggling black women, or the 'help' the house resorted to self-medicating after the stress of being alone and controlled by the superior white men. This was a sort of gritty read, and yet I really enjoyed it - but I will admit, it made me sick at times, and feel horror at what the women went through. I also thought I knew exactly what was going to happen and who dunnit, but BOY I couldn't have been far from the truth. Excellently written, and I'm obsessed with the sort of lyrical lull Vesper writes in, though at times it went a little off tangent. This is a good crime thriller that is pretty easy to follow and I would recommend people to give this book a read, just because of how powerful the message behind it is, and the rawness of it.
