My first impressions of this book, from the cover artwork to the synopsis, were positive and, having now read the novel, I can confirm that all my expectations were thoroughly met.
Narrated from three different points of view, this novel is completely engaging. All characters are so credible and well-rounded. The author made them come to life and I can safely say that I will miss a few of them. In fact, I think that Ruby should definitely have her own series and help the police with more investigations. I liked even the nasty characters.
The story was very cleverly plotted too. I had a lot of theories that I kept having to adjust as yet another well-placed twist would undo everything I believed until that point!
If I had to use three words to describe this book, I'd choose... evocative, simmering and well-plotted. It is a true page-turner.
