This is such a beautiful cover, what’s inside is equally as equally as wonderful - and hard to put into words to do it justice. Set in 1950’s America, When Joyce goes missing leaving behind blood in her kitchen, no one knows what’s happened to her and why she’s gone missing. Her cleaner, Ruby, is very loyal to her and wants to unearth the truth. Ruby is black and suffers racial discrimination from the neighbours and the police in her efforts to help. They clearly see her job and ethnicity as inferior and treat her this way. Ruby makes a discovery and at this point my heart was in my mouth! She doesn’t stop and is fearless in her determination. This is a very powerful read and so gripping. I loved the book from start to finish and couldn’t stop until I knew what happened. I highly recommend this and will automatically be buying anything this author writes!
