The first thing that attracted me to this book was the cover ( I know, I know, we should not judge a book by its cover) and I loved it from the first page to the last. It was like a refreshing lemonade on a strechy, sticky afternoon. I forgot that outside was cold and rainy, and even gave up the hot chocolate.

The story is well written and it drags you in its twists and turns. I really enjoyed the characters, I feel that the author did such a great job at showing this duality: shiny and perfect on the outside just like you see in old american soaps; and their inside full of darkness and secrets. It reminded me of a music video by Evanescence, Everybody's Fool.

The plot is quite simple, Joyce dissapears leaving behind only a bloody trail in the kitchen, discovered by Ruby, the help.

A twisty tale set in the 1950's, when women were encouraged to be the perfect homemakers and forget their passions, when racism cut deep in the society and when nothing seemed what it was.
