Having just binge watched Mad Men recently, it was apt that I selected this book because it naturally follows the time period and gives an insight into the world of 1950s America and the attitudes and customs of the period richly highlighting the prejudices, bonds and monotony of juggling married life as a woman whose life is ruled by the perception of others, society and the 1950s husband.

This book reminds me of 'The Help' in some parts. However, dark forces are at play as the protagonist, Joyce appears to out of the ordinary she appears to hint at mental instability - possibly post natal depression - but who knows? Will need to read to find out more.

Thoroughly enjoyed this read - the story as it unfolds was not predictable and it written in the first person of each character, giving insight into the mindset of each person befitting the period.
