Beautiful prose makes for a compelling opening..

The beautiful descriptive prose of the extract had a real intensity about it that made it extraordinary compelling. Straightforward love stories never appeal to me, but this book looks to be so much more with the backdrop of WWII and return to an era when life was about so much more. A poignant and powerful story that I would very much like to read.
