I've always been fascinated by the history of St Kilda's and it is immediately clear from the author's evocative descriptions that she has used her considerable research to bring the island, and a lost way of life, to life in a very powerful way. I like the dual timeline and the characters seem to be very well-drawn, meaning that I already feel drawn into their lives and experiences.
