I genuinely don't believe I've ever read anything that appeared so Scottish from the first few pages. It would be fascinating to me to read about the part that the Scots played in the war, but also just to get to grips more with the parts of the Gaelic language which are today used amongst spoken English. The writing of the sample is beautifully evocative and immediately immerses you into the story, making me really want to read on! St. Kilda as well being such a small island is really intriguing to me, as small island culture is not something I know much about.
