The cover is simple but effective, and I liked the map.
The story opening was good, well written and gave just enough description to enable me as the reader to picture what was going on.
I can't criticise much in the writing so far in the first impression, it has introduced the character and started setting the scene well

The character of a Scottish man captured with the french army and shipped East is a interesting one too.(Although not sure how much will be about the war).
Whilst from the blurb, and general sense of the plot direction, this probably is not a novel for me. I can see lots of people enjoying this.
