I thought the synopsis is interesting with Fred being captured so he thinks back about his childhood sweetheart, the days he was young and free.
When I read the first part of the story, I still found it quite interesting. It starts of with Fred in 1940, held in a prison and written as a recount. It then goes back and forward with other characters' viewpoints.
