First of all, the cover of this book is stunning. The gold embossed title and beautiful artwork really impressed me. The story itself was predictable, but certainly not in a bad way. There is lots of foreshadowing so I think it is pretty easy to guess what happens for the most part! The writing style is captivating and I always find I learn so much from Gifford's books. In this case, I learnt about the plight of the people of St Kilda, which is something I'd never even heard about before. My one gripe is that although I didn't mind the split narration I don't think it really added anything to the book and it was a little tedious at times. Also, because I think I could guess what was coming, I didn't find myself truly invested in the characters which overall meant that it wasn't very gripping. Thoroughly enjoyable though!
