A beautifully written novel that will melt your heart!
I was first introduced to Elisabeth Gifford's writing when I was sent `The Good Doctor of Warsaw' by Readers First. It is a book that I will cherish forever.
The Lost Lights of St Kilda is equally beautifully written. It captures the beauty of the island of St Kilda during the summer months and depicts the cruel winters that the islanders faced year after year. Their stoic determination to survive the harshness of life with little, or no help, from the mainland and their reluctance to leave the life they'd lived for generations was truly inspiring.
The vivid descriptions of the birds, weather and island formation transported me to St Kilda.
The love story between Chrissie and Fred is wonderful. I read many novels and am rarely brought to tears - the 2 books that I've read by Elisabeth Gifford have both made me cry. I thoroughly recommend this book...it is a wonderful read.
