The Lost Lights of St Kilda tells the story of Fred and Chrissie and how they fell in love on the now isolated island of St Kilda.
Told from both character's perspectives the tale jumps between 1927, when they met, to 1940, when Chrissie is no longer living on the island and Fred has been taken as a prisoner of war.
I knew nothing of the islands before reading this book and I found that the author managed to capture their character beautifully in the way she writes. The jumps in time between 1927 and 1940 also kept me gripped and wanting to know what happened to the characters next.
The only thing stopping me from giving this book a five start review was that I struggled to get invested in the romance until quite far into the book although I wonder if this was an intentional plan of the author.
