Captures the mysteries of St Kilda beautifully

Two fascinating times in history - the second world war and the moment one of the last 'old-world' communities ended - come together in this book. The characters, who span generations, are vivid and likeable. After four chapters, I am left wondering if Fred will ever make it out of his prison, if Rachel will ever meet her father, if we'll see more of the lovable aristocrat Archie... The chapters telling about life on St Kilda will be a great read simply for the historical interest, but I'd also love to read on to find out about Rachel's mother's recollections of that place. A quick look on google shows some amazing photographs of the community that came over from St Kilda, I'd love to find out more.
