The lost lights of St Kilda is an excellent book. It tells the story of Chrissie, who is one of the last inhabitants of an extremely remote Scottish island and Fred, the man from the mainland who falls in love with her. Chapters alternate from each of their perspectives and from different time points, so we gradually learn how they met and fell in love and how Fred battles to be reunited with Chrissie after a long and unfortunate separation. The book is, beautifully written with rich description of the island and the people who live there. I found it fascinating reading about the way of life of the last people of St Kilda and to consider the great hardships they faced and also the immense benefits they reaped.
