Hauntingly Beautiful
This was really beautifully written book. It tell athe story of a young man who falls in love while on the Island of At Kilda: remote, isolated and described in such a way that evokes the most beautiful landscape, undisturbed by encroaching development that would have been seen elsewhere mainland.
The narrative flips from different viewpoints, and does so seemlessly. There is a strong character voice that, although changed as a result of their context and experiences, remains authentic.
This is not usually the kind of book I would go out of my way to buy or read, however I was very pleasantly surprised. This is in essence a love story, but the attention to detail in describing place and time make it so much more than that.
