Whilst not my usual genre, the first impression grabbed my attention and I was excited to see how the story would develop. An eye catching book, the front cover is gorgeous and the maps are beautiful.

The setting of St Kilda is described well and you really can imagine it in your head, both in 1922 and 1940 onwards. The author writes about the characters well and the insights she gives you into life on the island are written so well.

I really liked that it was written in two different times and felt that the author had done this seamlessly, it wasn’t confusing at all.

A very moving story, I shed some tears when the inhabitants move away from St Kilda for the last time. A true love story, but not in a cheesy or over the top way. The author had captured everything perfectly and it really makes for a lovely book to read!
