The Lost Island of St Kilda is a beautifully written and descriptive love story, and follows the life of Fred Lawson who takes on a summer job on St Kilda, and falls in love with Chrissie, who lives on the island and knows little about life on the main land. Fred ends up leaving and in 1940 he is captured and ends up in a prisoner-of-war camp. During this terrible time where he is beaten and terrified, he thinks of Chrissie and his love for her. He makes an escape with only one thing on his mind, and that is to find Chrissie.
This is a beautiful story with an interesting plot set in a sad time, and it gave me an insight of life on St. Kilda as this was not something I knew much about. The characters are believable and likeable. I would highly recommend this book.
