The preview jumps straight in to what seems to be a Harry Potter/ Northern lights cross with the young protagonist heading off to school and all the characters having their closely linked animal companion.
The language is scattered with unfamiliar words with little real explanation or context. Maybe this becomes clearer as the book/ series progresses and reflects language the author wishes to put in front of the reader but I can see those first few pages putting a more reluctant young reader off if they struggle to grasp what language is being used and it doesn’t contribute to expanding their vocabulary.
I’m sure the target age group will enjoy the story but it doesn’t strike me as exceptional.
