I really enjoyed this book, wayyy more than I was expecting to as well!!! We follow Ella, who is the first conjuror to attend the Arcanum Training Institute. She faces a lot of problems because of this, and many people don't trust her because she is different. She is accused of a crime she does not commit and has to prove she s innocent.
From the very start, I loved the writing of this book. it is fast paced, and Danielle Clayton does an amazing job at world building and creating amazing characters. The plot was so fun and I loved trying to figure out what was happening and who was actually guility. I also loved the different houses, it did remind me of Harry Potter or Divergent - both series that I love.
Overall, this book was very exciting and fun to read, and is definitely one that I would recommend to middlegrade readers, I am defo reading the next one.
