I enjoyed this book a lot! The element within it worked well together and hearing about different marvels was always fun. It starts with an eleven year old Ella Durand and follow her journey through the school.
This book really stood out to me as it followed issues of prejudice and racism. It spoke about so many micro-aggressions and how racism is inherent. It told us Ella's difficulties of starting this new school as the first of her kind, and her auntie being the first to teach the first class in conjuring. It gives vibes of Ace of spades and I enjoyed that it touched so much on important topics but doing so in a way that a child or young person could understand.
It is so important to have so much representation in our books for all ages but especially for those young people who this book is aimed at.
I greatly enjoyed the vibes this book gave off, the many element of food that were spoken about and I can't wait to see more of what Dhonielle Clayton will write.
