Thanks to Readers First for the chance to read The Marvellers by Dhonielle Clayton. When I say read, I mean skim read and then pass on to one of my resident young adults to provide their expert opinion which was as follows. It was an entertaining book in its own right but it never quite escapes the shadow of Harry Potter. It's very American feeling which is fine but the premise is so very similar to HP that it can be a bit jarring too. Clearly the outsider being accepted while having adventures story is very familiar but there is a real added emphasis on different races and cultures which many think was missing in Hogwarts. Leaving all that aside it is an entertaining story it and zips along at a good pace that won't disappoint a teenage reader. It's a page turner and I wouldn't be surprised to see it make it to the screen in one form or another too.
