Starting out with a mutilated body sounds like a tried and trusted crime fiction opener (and none the worse for that, I might add!). References to World War Two and a secret society, however, take the novel into the potentially fertile terrain of historical fiction. As a lifelong fan of both genres, I'm eager to find out more!

I'm equally intrigued by the central protagonist and wonder whether the religious connotations of his surname have a particular significance? At all events, Priest is clearly drawn into something for which his legal training could never have prepared him and his struggle for the truth, combined with a race against time, should make for a compelling read.
