As a fan of Thomas Harris and Jeffery Deaver, both of whoms books this is likened to, this looks to be right up my (dark & sinister) alley!

My kids oft find themselves rolling their eyes at my rather gruesome reading material, and there's usually some quip along the lines of "oh, she's on page 10, there'll've only been 4 bodies by now"!

Finding the first corpse in the opening scene gets us right into the action, and switching between the two timelines instantly gives the impression that there's a story here!

First we are introduced to a rather graphically described crime scene. It is clear that whomever is behind it is capable of extreme cruelty and violence.

Next, we are taken back in time to the end days of WWII. We are given clues regarding a joint mission between the Americans and British Secret Service. Is there a connection with the sinister and shadowy House of Mayfly, a secret society which we are yet to be introduced to?

Then back in the current day, we meet lawyer & ex-policeman Charlie Priest, who is attacked in his own home by a thug masquerading as a police officer to gain entry. According to the blurb, this fellow is going to turn up dead, and we can probably assume he is connected to this same secret society, the House of Mayfly.

Priest is of course a suspect and I'm guessing we will spend the rest of the book on the run with him, as he tries to solve the case, find the links to the past, and find the answers before many many more people are killed.

I can't wait to find out :
• if Priest solves the case
• who ARE the shadowy House of Mayfly?
• what was the connection with the WWII camps?
