I was drawn into this book right from the beginning and the story of Ailsa inheriting a sprawling house in the Scottish highlands begins. Her father is also the co-owner of the house, but the only problem is that he has not been heard of for many years since he went missing along with a large amount of diamonds. After her mother's death, Ailsa returns to Scotland but unfortunately too late to attend her funeral, because of a large ash cloud from an Icelandic volcano stopping flights and together with her half sister they stay in the Manse. Very soon things start happening and Ailsa wonders if she is imagining them or not. Some of the local people are welcoming and friendly but some are the complete opposite. Then there are more scary happenings which scare Ailsa, making her wonder if the house is haunted or someone is trying to make her leave. The fact that no animals will go into the house is also disturbing Ailsa.
