After the death of her mother, Alisa Calder and her father who disappeared years ago inherit an old country house in the Scottish highlands. Called the Manse, the house is well known by all of the locals, many of whom feel that it is haunted or that it has some kind of spell surrounding it due to the fact that none of the animals will go anywhere near it. Alisa decides to go and live in the Manse for a while along with her half sister Carrie, but the pair find that the place is not as it seems. It is almost as if the house has a life of its own and strange happenings, noises and events take place, Alisa finds there has been an intruder and she begins to feel very uneasy. Amidst the goings on at the house Alisa also hopes to shed some light on what happened to her father all of those years ago.

I think this book has a good story, but it is a very slow going, in some ways this is great as it builds the suspense and eeriness of the plot, but keeps the reader waiting a long time for the action! There are some really interesting characters in it which are developed throughout the book which become integral to the ending. I enjoyed reading it.
